Legend of the Seas to Sail From Florida Earlier With New First Cruise Added

Royal Caribbean is giving cruise fans an unexpected head start on experiencing its newest mega-ship. The highly anticipated Legend of the Seas will now begin sailing from Florida earlier than originally scheduled, adding a new pre-inaugural voyage that is already generating excitement among travelers eager to be first onboard.

A New Earlier Sailing From Florida

The cruise line has added a brand-new 3-night sailing departing November 8, 2026, from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, three days ahead of the ship’s previously scheduled Florida debut.

This short itinerary includes:

  • A visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas
  • One day at sea
  • Return to Fort Lauderdale on November 11

While this newly added cruise will be the first time paying guests can board the ship in the United States, November 11, 2026 will still remain the official inaugural sailing from Florida.

Royal Caribbean has confirmed that the November 11 voyage will keep its ceremonial status. That means it is expected to feature the traditional inaugural perks such as special events, commemorative items, and added fanfare that many loyal cruisers look forward to.

Flexibility for Booked Guests

Passengers already booked on the November 11 sailing are being given first access to the new earlier cruise. They can:

  • Switch to the November 8 sailing
  • Keep their existing reservation
  • Or book both sailings for a back-to-back experience

This flexibility has sparked strong interest among cruise enthusiasts, especially those who want to maximize their time onboard. Some travelers are even considering combining multiple sailings, including the November 14 departure, to create an extended inaugural-season vacation.

Why the Earlier Launch Matters

For some travelers, being first is a major draw. Even without the official inaugural label, the November 8 sailing offers the distinction of being the first U.S. voyage with paying guests.

Others may prefer to remain on the November 11 sailing because of its historic designation and celebratory atmosphere.

From Royal Caribbean’s perspective, the move is a practical one. Demand for new ships, especially within the Icon Class, has been extremely strong. Adding an earlier sailing helps the cruise line increase available inventory, generate additional revenue, and make use of the ship as soon as it is ready.

This approach follows a similar pattern seen with Star of the Seas, which also had extra sailings added ahead of its official debut.

A Massive New Ship Nearing Completion

Legend of the Seas is set to be one of the largest cruise ships in the world. The vessel is currently under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland and is nearing readiness for sea trials.

The ship is expected to measure about:

  • 365 meters (1,197 feet) long
  • More than 248,000 gross tons
  • Capacity for around 5,600 guests at double occupancy and up to 7,600 at maximum, plus a crew of about 2,350

Onboard features will include the signature Icon Class neighborhood concept, a large waterpark, multiple pools, and a wide variety of dining and entertainment options.

Europe Debut Still on Track

While the Florida schedule has been adjusted, the ship’s European debut remains unchanged.

Legend of the Seas will officially enter service on July 4, 2026, with a 7-night Mediterranean cruise sailing roundtrip from Rome. Ports of call include Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and La Spezia.

After its summer season in Europe, the ship will cross the Atlantic on a 13-night voyage departing Barcelona on October 25 and arriving in Fort Lauderdale on November 7, just one day before the newly added sailing.

What Comes Next

Once based in Florida, Legend of the Seas will operate a mix of Caribbean itineraries, including:

  • 6-night Western Caribbean cruises with stops such as Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Jamaica
  • 8-night Southern Caribbean sailings visiting Aruba and Curaçao
  • Regular visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay

With its earlier Florida arrival, Legend of the Seas is already building momentum ahead of its debut. Travelers now have more options than expected to experience one of the most talked-about new ships at sea, whether they want to be first onboard or part of the official inaugural celebration.
