Royal Caribbean’s New Hero of the Seas Is Coming to Miami — And It’s Massive
Big ships are nothing new in cruising anymore… but every once in a while, something comes along that actually feels different. And honestly, this one might be it.
Hero of the Seas is officially heading to PortMiami starting in August 2027, and based on what we’re seeing so far… this isn’t just another new ship announcement. It’s Royal Caribbean doubling down on the whole “mega family vacation” concept, but taking it even further.
A New Icon Class Ship Is Headed to Miami

Royal Caribbean has confirmed that Hero of the Seas will be the fourth ship in its massively popular Icon Class lineup. Like her sister ships, she’s designed to be a floating resort… but with even more packed in.
The ship will homeport in Miami and sail 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. That means stops like:
- St. Maarten
- St. Thomas
- Cozumel
- Costa Maya
- Roatán
And yes, every single sailing will include a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, which has basically become a staple for Royal Caribbean itineraries at this point.
Bookings open April 1, 2026 for Crown & Anchor members, and April 2 for everyone else.
Bigger Pools, Bigger Slides, Bigger Everything

If you thought Icon of the Seas was already pushing the limits… this one goes even further.
Here’s what stands out:
- 9 total pools across the ship
- A brand-new Coconut Cove pool with in-water loungers
- An expanded adults-only Hideaway with two pools
- The largest swim-up bar at sea (plus an in-water DJ booth… because why not)
- The return of Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea
And the big headline feature:
- First-ever family funnel raft slide at sea
It’s very clear Royal Caribbean is leaning hard into “water everywhere” as a core part of the experience.
28 Dining Options (Yes, Really)
Food is another area where Hero of the Seas is going all out.
The ship will feature a record-breaking 28 dining venues, including both new concepts and returning favorites.
Some of the most interesting additions:
- Orleans Parish Supper Club
A jazz-filled, multi-course dining experience inspired by New Orleans with Cajun and Creole dishes - Royal Railway – Hero Station
A fully immersive train-themed dining experience that blends tech, storytelling, and food - AquaDome Market
A food hall with four new concepts, plus spots like Crème de la Crêpe and fresh juice bars
Fan favorites like Izumi, Chops Grille, Giovanni’s, Hooked Seafood, and Sorrento’s are all coming back too, along with quick grab-and-go options like Basecamp and El Loco Fresh.

Over-the-Top Family Spaces and Staterooms
This is where things get… a little wild (in a good way).
The standout is easily the Ultimate Family Treehouse, a three-level suite that includes:
- Rooftop terrace
- Private whirlpool
- Two bedrooms with their own bathrooms and balconies
- A full themed, treehouse-style design
There are also:
- Ultimate Family Townhouses with direct access to Surfside
- Family Suites and Infinite Ocean View balconies
- Redesigned Royal Loft Suites
And across the ship, guests will still find signature spaces like Central Park with over 30,000 real plants, the Royal Promenade, AquaTheater, and Absolute Zero ice arena.
Built for Families… But Not Just Families
Michael Bayley summed it up pretty clearly, saying Icon Class set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas is taking it even further with more thrills, more water, and more choices.
And that’s really the theme here.
Yes, it’s incredibly family-focused. But between the adults-only Hideaway, upscale dining, and immersive entertainment, it’s also trying to appeal to everyone onboard.
The Bigger Picture
At this point, Royal Caribbean isn’t just building ships… they’re building full-blown destinations at sea.
With Hero of the Seas heading to Miami, it reinforces how important PortMiami remains as the cruise capital, especially for next-gen ships like this.
And if early details are any indication, this ship isn’t just following the Icon formula… it’s trying to outdo it.
