Royal Caribbean’s Next Mega-Ship Will Launch Ahead of Schedule
Royal Caribbean has moved up the debut of its next mega-ship, Legend of the Seas, giving eager cruisers the chance to sail sooner than originally planned.
The cruise line has officially added a new inaugural voyage departing July 4, 2026, a full week earlier than the previously scheduled July 11 maiden sailing — and nearly a month ahead of the ship’s original August debut target.

New Inaugural Sailing Details
The newly added first sailing is a 7-night Western Mediterranean cruise departing from Civitavecchia. The itinerary includes stops in:
- Marseille, France
- Barcelona, Spain
- Palma de Mallorca, Spain
- La Spezia (gateway to Florence and Pisa)
The sailing also features two sea days before returning to Rome on July 11.
Royal Caribbean has opened bookings for the July 4 departure and confirmed that the July 11 sailing will still operate as planned, now serving as the second voyage of the ship’s inaugural season.
Guests Booked Can Move Their Sailing
Royal Caribbean has begun contacting guests already booked on the July 11 cruise, offering them the opportunity to move to the earlier July 4 sailing if they want to be among the very first onboard. Transfers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with guests rebooked into the same stateroom category or a like-for-like alternative.
Importantly, original pricing is protected. If the July 4 sailing is priced lower than what a guest originally paid, the difference will be refunded. Guests will still be responsible for taxes, fees, and add-ons such as drink packages, shore excursions, and gratuities at current rates.
For travelers who booked airfare through Royal Caribbean’s Air2Sea program, flight arrangements will be adjusted automatically. Those who booked independent travel may request reimbursement of up to $200 per person for domestic travel or $400 per person for international travel to cover change fees or rebooking costs.
Not the First Schedule Shift
This marks the second time Legend of the Seas’ debut has been moved earlier. In late 2025, Royal Caribbean had already announced earlier summer sailings for July 11, July 18, and July 25, signaling that construction was progressing ahead of schedule.
The ship is currently under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. While the vessel still needs to complete outfitting, sea trials, and final delivery, Royal Caribbean says the build is moving at a “legendary pace.”
A New Record-Setting Ship
When it enters service, Legend of the Seas will become the largest cruise ship in the world and the third vessel in Royal Caribbean’s Icon class. The ship will feature:
- The largest waterpark at sea, Thrill Waterpark
- Eight distinct neighborhoods
- 28 dining venues
- Seven swimming pools
Following its inaugural European season, Legend of the Seas will reposition to Port Everglades for the winter 2026–2027 season. From Florida, the ship will sail six- and eight-night Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries, all of which include a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay. The ship is scheduled to return to Europe again in spring 2027.
Will the July 11 Sailing Still Feel Special?
Guests unable to move to the July 4 departure don’t need to worry about missing out. Royal Caribbean confirmed that the entire inaugural season will feature special touches, including commemorative souvenirs, exclusive merchandise, and celebratory onboard events — ensuring that multiple sailings retain that “first season” excitement.
With construction ahead of schedule and demand already high, Legend of the Seas is shaping up to be one of Royal Caribbean’s most anticipated ship launches yet — now arriving sooner than anyone expected.
