Sailor the Puppy Joins Royal Caribbean and Meets Icon’s Rover
Sailor, a golden retriever puppy born in mid-February, is Royal Caribbean’s newest Chief Dog Officer and will soon take her post aboard Star of the Seas, the line’s second Icon-class ship.
Her big debut came with plenty of fanfare, including a heartwarming meeting with Rover, time spent with Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley, and friendly greetings from the ship’s captain, senior officers, crew, and curious passengers.
Videos from the day show tail wags, puppy play, special treats, and even a lighthearted game of fetch between the two goldens.

Sporting matching nautical hats, Rover and Sailor toured Icon of the Seas and posed for plenty of photo ops.
“[It] was a very special day,” Bayley shared on social media. “She met the Captain and senior officers, many of the crew, and guests.”
Both pups come from Eagleridge Goldens, a respected breeder in Florida known for healthy, well-socialized dogs. Though not confirmed as biological sisters, they certainly share a heartwarming bond and charm.
Rover will continue to serve aboard Icon of the Seas, while Sailor is slated to join Star of the Seas after the ship officially enters service.
Currently undergoing sea trials, Star of the Seas will begin hosting showcase sailings before its official debut from Port Canaveral on August 31, 2025.
As Chief Dog Officers, Rover and Sailor aren’t just aboard for cute content. These four-legged crew members play an important morale-boosting role, providing comfort and joy to hardworking crew and cruise guests alike.
With their own onboard handlers, these golden retrievers also disembark at select ports, including Perfect Day at CocoCay.
While guests can’t bring their own dogs aboard, service dogs are always welcome. For everyone else, Rover and Sailor will be offering furry hugs, selfies, and smiles at sea—making them true stars of the fleet.
