Carnival’s New Bahamas Cruise Port Set to Open This Week

Carnival Cruise Line is set to make waves in The Bahamas with the grand opening of its highly anticipated new cruise port, Celebration Key, this week.

After a decade of planning and construction, this exciting new port on Grand Bahama Island will welcome its first cruise ship, Carnival Vista, on Saturday, July 19.

A Decade in the Making

The journey to Celebration Key began ten years ago when Carnival Cruise Line proposed the idea to the Bahamian government, aiming to build a private port just a few miles east of Freeport. Now, with the port’s opening, it’s clear that the vision has become a reality—one that brings new opportunities to the island.

What’s in Store at Celebration Key

Celebration Key is designed to offer a mix of relaxation and adventure with its five unique areas:

  • Paradise Plaza: A vibrant entrance area that sets the tone for the excitement awaiting guests.
  • Calypso Lagoon: A serene, adult-friendly lagoon for those looking to unwind.
  • Starfish Lagoon: A family-friendly spot with fun for all ages.
  • Pearl Cove Beach Club: An exclusive, adults-only beach club for a more private experience.
  • Lokono Cove: A charming artisan retail village where guests can shop local crafts and souvenirs.

The port will also feature two stunning lagoons, including the largest freshwater lagoon in the Caribbean and The Bahamas. With over 30 food and beverage options, including 14 complimentary food trucks, there’s no shortage of dining experiences to enjoy.

Economic Boost for Grand Bahama Island

Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, expressed her excitement about the port’s opening, noting that Celebration Key is not only a beautiful destination but also a significant milestone for the island. She highlighted that this project is the first major development on Grand Bahama Island in over 20 years, bringing much-needed jobs and economic growth to the area.

“We’re proud as well of the hundreds of long-term jobs created by the destination’s daily operations—providing substantial economic benefits to the island while also celebrating Bahamian culture,” Duffy said.

A Hub for Fun and Exploration

In addition to the port’s incredible amenities, guests will have the option to explore beyond Celebration Key with a variety of excursions around Grand Bahama Island. Whether you’re looking to soak up the sun at a secluded beach or take in the island’s natural beauty, there’s something for everyone.

The First Visit

Carnival Vista will be the first ship to dock at Celebration Key, marking a new chapter for the cruise line and the Bahamas. The event is a major milestone in Carnival’s ongoing efforts to offer unique, private destinations for its guests, and it’s expected to become a must-visit stop on many Carnival itineraries.
