Cruise Cancels Entire Sailing Just Hours Before Departure
Celebrity Cruises has canceled the sailing of its popular ship, Celebrity Beyond, just hours before its scheduled departure from Miami.
The cancellation was prompted by unforeseen mechanical issues with the ship’s engines that affected its ability to reach cruising speeds.
Mechanical Problems and Extended Repairs

Originally, Celebrity Cruises had informed guests that the sailing, which was set to depart on July 20, 2025, would be delayed by one day. However, following further assessments, the cruise line determined that the repairs would take longer than expected.
The ship, part of Celebrity’s Edge-class series, has been undergoing repairs since the previous voyage, but the necessary fixes to the engine’s technical problems could not be completed in time.
In a letter sent to impacted passengers, the cruise line explained, “While our teams have been working diligently, we need additional time to complete necessary assessments and repairs.” After considering all options, they made the difficult decision to cancel the 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise.
Impact on Passengers and Compensation
Guests who had booked the now-canceled cruise will receive a full refund for their fare, including non-refundable deposits. In addition, each guest will be issued a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) equal to 100% of their original fare, which will be emailed within the next two weeks. Passengers who had used a previous FCC to pay for the cruise will have that credit automatically reinstated to their accounts.
Refunds will be processed within 14 days, and Celebrity Cruises has assured guests that all payments will be handled automatically.
Flight and Hotel Coverage
For guests who booked their flights through Celebrity Cruises’ Air2Sea program, the cruise line will take care of any necessary flight adjustments.
Those who made their own travel arrangements will be reimbursed up to $200 for domestic flights and $400 for international changes.
Additionally, the cruise line is offering an extra one-night hotel stay reimbursement of up to $250 for affected travelers. Guests can submit their receipts to the cruise line for reimbursement.
The Affected Cruise Itinerary
The Celebrity Beyond was scheduled to depart from Miami for a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise with stops in Nassau (Bahamas), St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands), and Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
The ship, known for its luxurious design and immersive guest experiences, has become a favorite among travelers. Unfortunately, the unexpected technical issues have left many guests disappointed, especially those who had been eagerly awaiting their journey.
Celebrity Cruises’ Apology and Future Assurance
Despite the disruption, Celebrity Cruises expressed their sincerest apologies in the follow-up letter: “We know we can’t give you your vacation time back, however, we do remain committed to making this right.” The cruise line also thanked guests for their patience and understanding, emphasizing their desire to welcome them onboard in the future.
This cancellation serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of cruise operations, and Celebrity Cruises has promised to continue working hard to ensure that future sailings will proceed smoothly.
