Five Americans Arrested in Nassau After Cruise Port Fight Turns Into a Police Station Brawl
A vacation in the Bahamas ended in handcuffs for five American cruise ship passengers after what started as a fight at the Nassau Cruise Port escalated into something significantly more serious at a police station — leaving four officers injured, a glass door shattered, and one man attempting to crawl through the wreckage to escape.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, June 11, 2026, after the incident unfolded the previous evening at Nassau Cruise Port — one of the most visited cruise destinations in the world.

What Happened at the Port
At approximately 4:45 p.m. on Monday, June 10, tourism police officers at the Nassau Cruise Port were alerted to a physical altercation involving several cruise ship passengers. Officers responded, called in additional personnel, and took five American nationals into custody — three women and two men. The original complainant from the port fight was asked to come to the police station to provide a formal statement.
What Happened at the Police Station
What came next transformed a disorderly conduct situation into something considerably more serious.
When officers at the station began preparing to search the five suspects, a violent struggle broke out. One of the women is accused of throwing a chair through a glass door, shattering it. One of the men then allegedly kicked out the remaining glass and attempted to climb through the broken frame and escape the building before being immediately subdued by officers.
Video footage obtained by Bahamian media outlets shows the chaos — people being brought to the ground, officers moving in to restrain suspects, and a man crawling through the shattered doorway as police close in around him.
Four officers were injured during the confrontation. Two were struck about the body. One sustained a laceration to the mouth. A fourth officer suffered a serious injury to his left shoulder and was transported to hospital by ambulance. His condition was not publicly confirmed at the time of the police statement.
The five suspects also sustained minor injuries during the original altercation at the port.
The Charges
The five Americans were charged with assault of a police officer, fighting in a public place, resisting arrest, malicious damage, and disorderly behavior in a police station. They remain in custody as of the time of writing, and the investigation is ongoing.
The police have not released the names of the suspects, the cruise ship they were sailing on, or the cruise line involved. The specific circumstances that triggered the initial fight at the port also have not been confirmed publicly.
A Reminder About Overseas Arrests
For American travelers, this story is a timely reminder that local laws apply the moment you step off your cruise ship — and that behavior which might result in a warning at home can result in arrest, charges, and detention in a foreign country.
In the Bahamas, assaulting a police officer carries serious legal consequences, and the fact that five people are now facing multiple charges in a Bahamian court is not a situation that resolves itself quickly or easily. Consular assistance is available through the US State Department for American citizens detained abroad, but it does not provide immunity from local law.
Nassau remains one of the most welcoming and popular cruise destinations in the Caribbean. For the vast majority of the millions of passengers who visit each year, it is exactly that. For these five, it became something very different.
