Foster Dad on Carnival Horizon Cruise Arrested for Child Porn Possession at PortMiami
A Tennessee foster father who has cared for more than a dozen children was arrested earlier this month after federal agents allegedly discovered child pornography on his phone as he returned from a family cruise.
Arrest at PortMiami
According to an arrest affidavit, 48-year-old Jason Alan Miller was taken into custody on September 13 at PortMiami after disembarking from Carnival Cruise Line’s Horizon following a voyage to the Cayman Islands. Miller had been selected for a random secondary screening by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.
During the inspection, Miller voluntarily handed over his Samsung Galaxy phone and provided the passcode. Investigators said they found a folder in his Google Photos app that contained at least 45 images of suspected child sexual abuse material. One folder was titled “6yo_rare,” according to court records.
Family on Board
At the time of his arrest, Miller was traveling with his pregnant wife and eight children ranging in age from 5 to 12. Seven of the children had originally been placed in Miller’s care as foster kids before being adopted by the family.
Authorities noted that over the past seven years, Miller had fostered approximately 20 children at his Tennessee home.
Confession and Charges
Investigators said Miller admitted he was aware the child pornography was stored on his phone and claimed that no one else had access to the device.
He was charged with possession of child pornography and transportation of child pornography, serious federal offenses that could carry lengthy prison sentences if convicted.
Current Status
Following his arrest, Miller was booked into the Broward County Jail under a U.S. Marshals Service hold. As of the latest update, no attorney information for Miller has been made available.
The shocking allegations have raised concerns given Miller’s long involvement with fostering children, a role that typically requires strict background checks and oversight.
Authorities have not released additional details about the investigation or whether more charges could follow.
