Royal Caribbean’s Third Chief Dog Officer is Here!

Royal Caribbean has officially confirmed the arrival of its third “Chief Dog Officer” aboard the upcoming Legend of the Seas. A female golden retriever, the new pup is set to join the ranks of Rover and Sailor, the beloved Chief Dog Officers on Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas, respectively.

The news was shared by Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean, via a celebratory social media post featuring an adorable, boopable photo of the puppy. “A Legend has been born and she is as cute as cute can be!” Bayley exclaimed, teasing fans about the yet-to-be-revealed name of the new canine recruit.

The Rising Star of the Seas

This new addition to the Royal Caribbean fleet continues the cruise line’s tradition of having “Chief Dog Officers” on its Icon Class ships, a unique initiative that started with Icon of the Seas in 2024.

The dogs serve not only as a source of comfort for the crew but also as furry ambassadors, meeting guests, posing for selfies, and bringing smiles to everyone aboard. The Chief Dog Officers are beloved for their social media presence and in-person charm, and it seems that the newest member will be no exception.

The Legend of the Seas’ Chief Dog Officer’s arrival is particularly exciting for fans of the cruise line’s furry friends, as the puppy is expected to join the ship when it embarks on its maiden voyage in July 2026. While the puppy is still in her early stages, Royal Caribbean has confirmed that she will eventually serve aboard the ship, meeting guests and bringing joy to all who cross her path.

The Pup’s Future Role

Just like Rover and Sailor before her, the new Chief Dog Officer will likely participate in daily walks around the ship and engage with guests in interactive, playful ways. The role of Chief Dog Officer has become a hit among passengers and crew alike, with the dogs enjoying celebrity status on social media platforms, where they are frequently featured in posts and stories.

Though the puppy’s name remains a mystery, the cruise line has encouraged guests to get creative and guess her name, with suggestions ranging from nautical-themed names like “Skipper” and “Siren” to more adventurous choices like “Athena” or “Coco.” The puppy’s name will be revealed closer to the ship’s first voyage, adding an extra element of excitement to the countdown.

Maiden Voyage and Debut

Legend of the Seas is scheduled to set sail on July 7, 2026, from Rome, Italy, on a seven-day roundtrip Western Mediterranean cruise. While it’s possible the new puppy may not be joining right away due to international pet travel regulations, she’s expected to make her official debut when the ship heads to Fort Lauderdale later in the year.

As the first Chief Dog Officer on Legend of the Seas, the new pup will help maintain Royal Caribbean’s reputation for blending family-friendly experiences with innovative amenities. Guests aboard Legend of the Seas can look forward to meeting their new furry friend during their voyage, along with the other four-legged celebrities who have made the Icon Class ships so special.

Royal Caribbean’s commitment to incorporating pets into the cruise experience is something that sets the line apart, and it’s clear that the “pup-ularity” of these canine companions will continue to grow.

Stay tuned for more details on the new Chief Dog Officer’s name and role aboard Legend of the Seas as her debut approaches!
