Viral Video Shows Cruise Passenger Trapped Mid-Slide Over the Ocean – “My Worst Nightmare”

A TikTok video showing a woman getting trapped mid-ride on a cruise ship waterslide has gone viral — and it’s sparking waves of panic, laughter, and a few newly discovered fears of cruise slides.

The Viral Moment That Shocked Millions

A 13-second clip shared by TikTok user @kaylamierzejewski shows a passenger stuck inside the Ocean Loops slide aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Bliss. The incident occurred on September 19, 2025, during a seven-day Alaskan cruise near Victoria, British Columbia.

In the clip, the woman lies on her back inside the transparent tube, pressing her hands against the walls as she struggles to scoot forward. The slide, made of clear acrylic, juts 11 feet over the side of the ship and hangs about 160 feet above the ocean, giving riders the thrill — and, in this case, the terror — of sliding over open water.

As onlookers gasp, someone can be heard saying, “Oh my God, she’s literally stuck!” The video cuts before showing the resolution, leaving millions of viewers to wonder what happened next.

According to the video’s creator, the woman was safely rescued and even decided to ride again afterward. Norwegian Cruise Line did not immediately comment on the incident, but the slide includes emergency hatches specifically for moments like this.

What Is the Ocean Loops Slide?

The Ocean Loops slide is one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s most famous attractions, found on several of its Breakaway Plus–class ships, including the Norwegian Bliss, Joy, and Encore.

The ride starts with a trapdoor launch — riders stand upright until the floor drops out beneath them, plunging them through two loops that hang over the ocean. It’s a fan favorite for thrill seekers, but it also comes with strict safety requirements:

  • Minimum height: 40 inches (100 cm)
  • Weight range: 120–300 pounds (54–136 kg)

The upward loop of the slide is where riders occasionally get stuck if they don’t gain enough momentum. Factors like body position, water flow, and body weight can all affect the speed needed to complete the loop.

When someone stalls, crew members can use an emergency hatch to help the rider safely exit — a precaution built into the slide’s design.

Social Media Reactions: “New Fear Unlocked”

The internet wasted no time reacting. The viral clip has now been viewed more than 7 million times and sparked thousands of comments ranging from panic to pure humor.

“I’m panicking — HOW DID SHE GET OUT?” one viewer wrote.
“Stuck in a waterslide over actual ocean water would send me into a psychosis,” another said.

Claustrophobic users chimed in with “My claustrophobia could NEVER” and “I’m suffocating just watching this.” Others took a more comedic approach:

“New fear unlocked.”
“Poverty has saved me once again.”
“TikTok has taught me to NEVER get in a cruise slide.”

While the fear was real for some, most commenters acknowledged that the slide still looked thrilling — if not a little too thrilling for their next vacation.

Are Cruise Ship Slides Safe?

Despite the viral scare, Ocean Loops and similar slides have strong safety records. These attractions are inspected regularly and built with precise engineering to ensure riders maintain proper speed and trajectory.

Still, incidents like this raise the question: are cruise slides pushing the thrill too far? Earlier this year, a separate incident on a Royal Caribbean ship made headlines when an acrylic slide panel cracked mid-ride — though no one was injured.

Cruise lines maintain that such events are extremely rare and that guest safety remains a top priority. In the case of the Ocean Loops, the ride continues to operate normally.

When Fun Turns to Fear — and Back Again

For most passengers, slides like Ocean Loops deliver pure adrenaline and unforgettable ocean views. But as this viral video proves, even the most thrilling attractions can have heart-stopping moments.

Luckily, this one ended safely — and probably with a great story for the passenger who found herself suspended above the Pacific.

Because on a cruise ship, even your worst nightmare can end with laughter, a viral moment, and maybe one more ride down the slide… just to prove you can.
