Virgin Voyages Kicks Off First-Ever LA Season with Major Buzz
The West Coast cruise scene just got a noticeable shake-up.
Virgin Voyages has officially brought its newest ship, Brilliant Lady, to Port of Los Angeles for the first time, marking the brand’s debut sailing season from California. And instead of a quiet arrival, the company turned the moment into a full-scale launch event that drew attention across the industry.

A First for the Brand on the West Coast
When Brilliant Lady docked on April 6, 2026, it signaled more than just another ship arrival. This is the first time Virgin Voyages has based a season out of Los Angeles, expanding beyond its usual Caribbean and European operations.
More than 2,000 invited guests boarded the ship before its first official sailing. The guest list included travel advisors, media, influencers, and VIPs. Familiar names like Dixie D’Amelio and Brec Bassinger added to the buzz, giving the launch a red-carpet feel rather than a standard port call.
A Preview Designed to Show Off the Experience
Before passengers even set sail, Virgin Voyages offered a preview event that let guests explore the ship while docked. The focus was on showcasing the lifestyle-driven approach the brand is known for.
Guests experienced:
- Fitness classes inspired by West Coast wellness trends
- Fresh juice bars and health-focused options
- Pop-up entertainment throughout the ship
- Interactive experiences like “CTRL + ALT + DELUSION,” blending puzzles with immersive storytelling
The goal was simple: give a full taste of what a Virgin Voyages sailing feels like before the first cruise even begins.
Dining and Entertainment Take Center Stage
Food and nightlife played a major role during the launch.
Guests sampled meals across several signature venues, including:
- Pink Agave for Mexican-inspired dishes
- Gunbae, a lively Korean BBQ experience
- Extra Virgin for Italian comfort food
- The Wake for steak and seafood
- Test Kitchen, known for its experimental menus
Entertainment followed with performances like Red Hot and Up With a Twist. The night wrapped with the brand’s signature Scarlet Night pool party, making its West Coast debut with high-energy music and a beach club-style atmosphere.
First Sailing Kicks Off from Los Angeles
The first official voyage, called the “L.A. MerMaiden,” departed on April 7, 2026.
This 5-night cruise includes stops in:
- Santa Barbara
- San Diego
- Ensenada
The itinerary blends California coastal cities with a quick visit to Mexico before returning to Los Angeles on April 12. It offers a shorter option that still covers a mix of destinations, making it appealing for quick getaways.
Mexican Riviera Itineraries Coming Next
Following the inaugural sailing, Brilliant Lady will continue operating from Los Angeles with longer cruises.
Upcoming sailings include:
- 6- and 7-night itineraries
- Stops in Cabo San Lucas
- Visits to Puerto Vallarta
These routes follow the familiar Mexican Riviera format, but with Virgin’s adults-only concept, which is still relatively new for cruises departing from California.
Alaska Season Marks Another First
The ship will not stay in Los Angeles for long.
On May 3, 2026, Brilliant Lady will reposition to Vancouver for Virgin Voyages’ first-ever Alaska season. These sailings will feature:
- Week-long itineraries
- Stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway
- Scenic cruising through glacier regions
This move expands the brand beyond warm-weather destinations into more scenic, nature-focused cruising.
Returning to Los Angeles Later This Year
After the Alaska season wraps up, the ship is scheduled to return to Los Angeles on September 19. It will operate another round of sailings through October, giving travelers a second chance to try Virgin Voyages from the West Coast.
A Different Approach to West Coast Cruising
Cruising from California has long been dominated by traditional, family-focused itineraries. Virgin Voyages is taking a different path with its adults-only concept, modern dining, and nightlife-focused experience.
With Brilliant Lady now sailing from Los Angeles, the West Coast is seeing a style of cruising that has mostly been limited to other regions until now. The launch suggests a shift in what travelers can expect when booking a cruise from California ports.
