Carnival Opens Brand New Pier at Half Moon Cay — Allowing Its Biggest Ships to Visit for the First Time
Half Moon Cay just got significantly better — and for the first time, some of Carnival’s biggest ships can now visit one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful private destinations.
Carnival Cruise Line officially unveiled the completion of a major expansion at RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas on June 1, 2026, opening a brand new pier alongside a raft of upgraded amenities that transform the island experience for the millions of passengers who visit each year.

The Biggest Change: A New Pier That Opens the Island to More Ships
The centerpiece of the expansion is the new pier — and its significance goes beyond convenience. For the first time, Excel-class ships, Carnival’s largest vessels including Carnival Jubilee and the upcoming Carnival Tropicale, can now dock directly at Half Moon Cay. Previously, the destination’s infrastructure limited which ships could call there. The new pier removes that barrier entirely, meaning more guests than ever will be able to experience one of the most consistently praised stops in Carnival’s Caribbean network.
Carnival Corporation President Christine Duffy called out the significance of the pier directly. “With the new pier, more ships can now easily access this incredible destination,” she said. “We’re excited that more guests than ever will be able to experience the stunning beachfront and turquoise waters.”
Currently, 22 Carnival ships call at Half Moon Cay across the fleet’s various homeports and itineraries.
What’s New on the Island
Beyond the pier, the expansion touches nearly every aspect of the guest experience at Half Moon Cay.
New complimentary loungers and umbrellas have been added across the expanded beachfront, giving guests more space to relax without fighting for a spot. For those who want a more elevated experience, reservable cabanas and daybeds are now available, offering private shaded sanctuary steps from the water.
Five food and drink venues have been added or upgraded: Orchid Beach Grill, Hibiscus Beach Grill, Luna Tide Beach Bar, Stay Awhile Beach Shack, and Lil’ Tiki Bar. The lineup covers everything from island-style meals and full buffets to refreshing beverages in beachfront settings — giving guests genuine options rather than a single crowded facility.
Getting around the island has also been made easier. A new tram service now connects all areas of the destination, making it more accessible for guests who might not want to navigate the beach on foot. For those who prefer to walk, a new Papaya Pathway provides a scenic pedestrian route through the island’s natural surroundings.
The existing south side of the island is simultaneously being refreshed with new design elements and venue upgrades — meaning even the most familiar parts of Half Moon Cay are getting a fresh look.
Part of Carnival’s Growing Portfolio
Half Moon Cay sits within Carnival’s Paradise Collection — described as the largest portfolio of exclusive cruise destinations across the Caribbean and Bahamas. The collection also includes the recently reimagined Isla Tropicale in Roatán, Honduras, and the much-discussed Celebration Key in the Bahamas.
The timing of this expansion is notable. With Celebration Key having faced serious scrutiny following three guest deaths since its July 2025 opening — including an incident involving a pier just weeks ago — the opening of a brand new, modern pier at Half Moon Cay with expanded amenities and accessibility features sends a signal that Carnival is investing in the safety and quality of its private island infrastructure across the board.
Half Moon Cay has long been considered one of the most naturally beautiful private island destinations in the Caribbean. With the new pier and expanded amenities now open, it just became an even more compelling reason to book a Carnival sailing.
