Celebrity Cruises Opens 2028 Bookings for Bucket-List Galápagos Expeditions
Travelers dreaming of exploring one of the most extraordinary ecosystems on Earth can now start planning ahead. Celebrity Cruises has officially opened bookings for its 2028 Galápagos expedition season, offering travelers the chance to experience the remote archipelago aboard the luxury expedition ship Celebrity Flora.
Because Galápagos sailings are tightly regulated and ships carry only a small number of passengers, these voyages often sell out years in advance. With just about 100 guests per sailing, early reservations are common among travelers hoping to secure a spot on what many consider a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

A Luxury Expedition to One of the World’s Most Unique Ecosystems
Located roughly 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, the Galápagos Islands are one of the most protected natural environments on the planet. The volcanic archipelago is famous for its wildlife, much of which evolved in isolation and has little fear of humans.
Visitors might find themselves snorkeling alongside Galápagos penguins, hiking past blue-footed boobies, or spotting giant tortoises slowly roaming across lava-formed landscapes.
Celebrity’s expedition program aims to bring travelers close to these natural wonders while maintaining strict environmental standards that protect the fragile ecosystem.
Sailing on the Award-Winning Celebrity Flora
The voyages will take place aboard Celebrity Flora, the cruise line’s purpose-built expedition ship designed specifically for the Galápagos region. Unlike many older ships that were converted for expedition cruising, Flora was constructed with sustainability and comfort in mind.
The vessel accommodates just around 100 guests, creating an intimate experience with a high staff-to-guest ratio. Every stateroom onboard is a suite, many featuring Celebrity’s signature Infinite Veranda, which transforms the living space into an open-air balcony overlooking the surrounding landscapes.
The ship has also earned recognition for its luxury credentials, including a Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star rating, positioning it as a high-end option in a region traditionally dominated by research-focused expedition operators.
A “Luxury Basecamp” Experience
Celebrity describes the Flora experience as a “luxury basecamp” for exploration. By day, guests participate in guided hikes, snorkeling adventures, and wildlife viewing with certified naturalists. By night, the ship offers upscale amenities rarely found on small expedition vessels.
One of the ship’s standout experiences is a glamping program on the top deck, where guests can spend the night in a luxury cabana under the exceptionally clear Galápagos skies.
Sustainability and Conservation at the Center
Environmental stewardship plays a central role in Celebrity’s Galápagos program, and the 2028 season continues to emphasize conservation.
The cruise line’s Rewilding Galápagos initiative is expected to reach a major milestone of 100,000 trees planted, helping restore native ecosystems across the islands.
Guests will also have opportunities to take part in the program directly. As part of the itinerary, travelers visit the Hernán Carrión Nursery, where they can help plant native seedlings in partnership with the Galápagos National Park.
This hands-on approach reflects a growing trend in expedition travel known as “regenerative tourism,” where travelers aim to leave destinations better than they found them.
Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge emphasized the importance of balancing luxury travel with conservation efforts.
“The Galápagos is one of the most extraordinary places on Earth, and we are privileged to offer our guests an elevated and intimate way to explore the region on the award-winning Celebrity Flora,” she said. “Beyond delivering once-in-a-lifetime experiences, we are also committed to supporting the long-term conservation of these remarkable islands through our sustainability initiatives and community projects.”
Two Distinct Itinerary Options

For the 2028 season, Celebrity will continue offering two primary seven-night itineraries, each highlighting different aspects of the archipelago.
Inner Loop Itinerary
This route focuses on the volcanic landscapes and iconic wildlife found on islands such as Santa Cruz, where guests can see the famous giant Galápagos tortoises in their natural habitat.
Outer Loop Itinerary
Often considered the more adventurous route, this itinerary is particularly popular with birdwatchers and marine life enthusiasts. Guests may encounter rare species like the flightless cormorant and enjoy snorkeling opportunities with marine iguanas.

Optional Land Extensions
Travelers looking to expand their adventure can also combine their Galápagos cruise with additional land experiences in South America. Celebrity offers pre- and post-cruise extensions, including trips to Machu Picchu in Peru, allowing guests to pair two bucket-list destinations in one journey.
A Rare Travel Opportunity
Because the Galápagos Islands limit visitor numbers and regulate ship sizes, expedition cruises in the region remain one of the most exclusive travel experiences in the cruise industry.
With bookings for the 2028 season now open, travelers interested in exploring this remarkable destination may want to plan early before these limited expedition sailings fill up.
