Carnival Cruise Lines Takes a Hard Stance on Gambling—Find Out Why

Carnival Cruise Line has once again clarified its strict policies regarding gambling on its ships, following an influx of guest questions about playing games like Left-Center-Right (LCR) for money outside of the casino.

The cruise line emphasized that while guests can enjoy such games, monetary exchanges are prohibited unless done in the designated casino areas.

John Heald, Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, recently addressed the topic after a passenger asked if LCR could be played for cash during an upcoming 14-night Hawaiian cruise aboard Carnival Radiance.

The guest noted that other cruise lines allow money-based games like LCR, but Carnival’s rules remain firm, banning all forms of gambling outside of the casino.

The game itself isn’t banned; guests are encouraged to enjoy it without betting money. Heald recommended using non-cash alternatives, like small candies or prizes, to keep the fun alive. “You can play for fun or mini Twix bars, but not money,” Heald confirmed in his response, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the policy.

Carnival Cruise Line’s prohibition of gambling outside the casino is rooted in legal obligations and international gambling laws. These laws vary depending on the cruise’s itinerary and the countries the ship visits, and Carnival must remain compliant with them to avoid any legal complications.

While some guests may feel disappointed by the restrictions, Carnival has ensured there are plenty of alternatives for those wishing to engage in games onboard.

Quiet spaces such as lounges, libraries, and areas along the promenade are available for activities like board games, puzzles, and card games without violating the company’s gambling policies.

In fact, card-playing tables are often set up in quieter areas of the ship, providing a comfortable space for these activities while minimizing disruption to other passengers.

The cruise line’s gambling policy is not designed to generate profit but to comply with legal definitions of gambling and ensure a safe, enjoyable cruise experience for all passengers.

Carnival continues to uphold these rules across its entire fleet, maintaining a balance between fun and compliance with international regulations.

As Carnival cruises remain a popular choice for many, these rules are part of the company’s effort to create a pleasant and lawful environment for all its guests, from casual cruisers to those hoping for a fun gambling experience in the onboard casino.
