Norwegian Just Did Something No Cruise Line Has Ever Done for First Responders
For the first time in the cruise line’s history, Norwegian Cruise Line is saying thank you to the men and women who run toward danger for a living — and backing it up with real savings.
Norwegian Cruise Line has officially launched a brand new First Responder Discount, making it the latest addition to the cruise line’s growing family of community appreciation programs.
The discount is available year-round and applies to law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians across the United States and Canada — both those currently serving and those who have retired from service.

What the Discount Offers
The new program provides a 5% reduction on cruise fares across Norwegian’s full fleet of sailings, with a more generous 15% discount available on a selection of designated itineraries. There are no seasonal restrictions on the base discount — it is a permanent, year-round offering rather than a limited-time promotion.
To access the discount, eligible first responders simply need to register and verify their status through ID.me, the same identity verification platform Norwegian uses for its existing military and teacher discount programs.
Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, was direct about the motivation behind the new program. “Every day, first responders, teachers, and members of the military put others first,” he said. “We’re proud to honor them with these new and enhanced deals, so they can enjoy the kind of vacation they truly deserve.”
Part of a Broader Commitment to Those Who Serve
The First Responder Discount doesn’t arrive in isolation. Norwegian has quietly been building one of the most comprehensive community appreciation programs in the cruise industry, and this latest addition completes a trio of offerings that now covers three of the most recognizable service communities in North America.
The cruise line’s Military Appreciation Program has been in place for some time, offering active and veteran military members in the US and Canada a 10% discount on voyage fares year-round, along with exclusive perks including a special military reception onboard and commemorative challenge coins presented to eligible guests during the sailing.
In recognition of Military Appreciation Month this May, Norwegian has significantly elevated that program. For a limited time, the military discount on select sailings has jumped from 10% to 20% — and in a move that is genuinely new territory for the cruise line, military guests on those select voyages can now extend their full 20% discount to non-military travel companions sailing alongside them in separate staterooms.
For families and friend groups where only one person has served, that extension removes what has historically been one of the most frustrating limitations of military discount programs.
Norwegian’s Teacher Cruise Discount rounds out the trio, ensuring that educators receive the same recognition extended to military personnel and first responders.
Why This Matters
First responder discounts resonate far beyond their direct financial value. For police officers, firefighters, and EMTs — careers defined by shift work, irregular schedules, accumulated stress, and the emotional weight of what they witness on the job — the ability to step away and genuinely decompress on a well-earned vacation carries meaning that goes beyond the percentage saved on a fare.
The extension of these programs to retired first responders is particularly meaningful. A career spent in service doesn’t end its significance the moment someone hands in their badge or hangs up their gear, and Norwegian’s decision to include retirees acknowledges that the service these individuals gave doesn’t expire on the day they stop receiving a paycheck for it.
With the First Responder Discount now in place alongside its military and teacher programs, Norwegian Cruise Line has positioned itself as one of the most community-conscious options in mainstream cruising — a distinction that is likely to resonate strongly with the families and friends of those who qualify, not just the eligible individuals themselves.
First responders, military members, and teachers can verify eligibility and access all three programs through ID.me on the Norwegian Cruise Line website.
