Iconic Renaissance Replica Sets Sail with Carnival Cruise Line
In a fusion of art, history, and travel, Carnival Cruise Line has unveiled that the beloved replica of Michelangelo’s David will grace the decks of the Carnival Firenze, marking a new chapter in the cruise line’s embrace of Italian heritage and culture.
This announcement, made on March 20, 2024, not only celebrates the return of a treasured artwork but also symbolizes the ship’s deep-rooted connection to Florence, Italy, the city of its namesake and the original home of the iconic marble statue.
Previously adorning the Carnival Pride for nearly two decades, the statue’s removal in 2023 paved the way for its reinstallation on the Carnival Firenze.
This move is especially fitting given the ship’s design inspiration and name paying homage to Florence, where the original David attracts millions of art aficionados at the Academia Gallery.

The Carnival Firenze is poised to make its debut in Long Beach, California, this April, setting sail on its inaugural cruise on April 25. The journey promises an immersive experience, dubbed “Carnival Fun Italian Style,” inviting guests to explore the vibrant cultures and picturesque landscapes of Mexico, with stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas before returning on May 2.
Aboard the ship, the replica of Michelangelo’s David finds its new home in the Michelangelo Restaurant, serving as a nod to Italian Renaissance art amidst the ship’s Italian-inspired architecture and themed artwork.
The inclusion of the statue is more than decorative; it serves as a bridge connecting guests to the rich history and artistic achievements of Renaissance Italy.
The transformation of Costa Firenze to Carnival Firenze included extensive renovations in Cadiz, Spain, aligning the ship with Carnival’s signature blend of entertainment and leisure facilities.
The vessel now features the adults-only Serenity Retreat, Cloud 9 Spa, SportSquare, a state-of-the-art casino, and a variety of dining options that promise to delight every palate.
Carnival Firenze’s year-round itineraries from Long Beach will offer guests a choice of 4-, 5-, and 7-night cruises to the Mexican Riviera and Baja Mexico, including visits to Ensenada and Catalina Island, depending on the cruise length and sailing dates.
This revival of the David replica aboard Carnival Firenze not only commemorates a historical artwork but also enhances the cruise experience by offering guests a slice of Italian culture and history.
As Carnival Cruise Line continues to unveil more about the ship’s features and itineraries, the anticipation for its launch grows, promising unforgettable journeys filled with art, culture, and adventure.
